Julia sounds as though she’s singing through cotton wool much of the time, and her accent comes from some as yet undiscovered part of the English speaking world, but the effect is soulful, beautiful, occasionally eerie and always captivating. She and Angus lay down a solid and supportive accompaniment, with a variety of instrumentation, and some full sounding, complex arrangements, but their performances are all about the songs. You barely notice there is anything there but the voice and the words.
